My Dog Doesn’t Pose!

Have you ever thought: “I’d love to get professional photos but my dog doesn’t pose!” Well, I’m here to assure you that there is no need to worry! There are many tricks (and treats) I have up my sleeve to get that perfect shot! I guarantee you will be amazed at what a natural model your fur baby is! Hello Cover Pup! Keep reading below to see how I address each of these common concerns during your dog’s portrait session!

“My Dog Won’t Sit Still!”

The camera that I use has a super-fast shutter speed. What that means for your fur baby is that I only need a fraction of a second to get the perfect shot. So if your dog is looking at me then quickly looks away chances are I’ve captured the moment before he/she ever turned his head! This also helps prevent the photos from being blurry. I often have pet parents complain that when they take pictures of their dog moving they come out blurry. This won’t be an issue during our portrait session! Once you see the photos you’ll forget you ever had the thought: “my dog doesn’t pose!”

“My Dog Won’t Pay Attention!”

Chances are your dog is best motivated by treats, attention, or a favorite toy. Knowing this ahead of time will help us get perfect shots of your fur baby. I”ll instruct you on where to hold the treats or toy so that your dog will be looking right into my lens. I also have extra tricks up my sleeve including a cell phone noise app, squeaky toy in my pocket, or making strange noises. When a dog hears a novel sound they will look in that direction and tilt their head. That’s when I’m ready to click the shutter button to get the perfect shot!

“My Dog is Leash Reactive!”

At times I’ve had pet parents tell me that their fur baby barks at other people and dogs. They are concerned this would make it difficult to get a good picture or may use this as a reason not to get professional pet portraits done. However, I solve this problem by taking location into account. We can do portrait sessions at your home or choose a location where it is easier to separate from others. I’ll be writing a future blog post about my favorite pet photography locations!

“My Dog Has to Stay on a Leash!”

Your dog can’t be trusted off-leash? No problem, I’ve got you covered! During our portrait sessions, I insist that your dog wears a leash unless we are in a private fenced area. There are two reasons for this: 1)your pet’s safety is my top priority and 2) many cities have leash laws.
I’m able to edit out leashes in my computer software! During our session together I’ll show you ways you can hold the leash to make this even easier! Most of the images I’ve taken on my website have had the leash removed in post-processing. Check out the before and after below!
