Exciting Announcement!
We finally had our very own “gotcha day”! The news is out: my husband and I are dog parents! I’m just so happy I could burst! This has been a moment in the making for 13 years. Ever since my golden retriever, Penny, passed away when I was 22 years old I knew that I wanted to own a dog again. I have been waiting for the exact right time so that we could give a new doggo the best life possible! So here I am 13 years later through grad school, new jobs, marriage, moving, the time is finally right to have our own gotcha day!
Best Friend Pet Adoption
We went through Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA). I was familiar with Best Friend Pet Adoption due to volunteering my photography services for their foster dogs in the past. I had been searching previously for a golden retriever or Cocker spaniel mix to rescue but it had not worked out yet. One day I saw the picture on BFPA of an 8-year-old cocker spaniel mix (Marley) who was bonded with Sophie (an 11-year-old basset hound mix). I highly recommend going through this rescue. Throughout the application, adoption trial, and the actual adoption BFPA has been super supportive!
Making the Decision
My husband and I discussed whether we were up to adopting a pair of seniors. It is a sad realization that the time that you have left with them is limited. However the more we talked, the more we realized that what we may lack in time we will more than makeup for with love!
The description of the dogs’ needs and temperament fit what we were looking for so we decided to put in our adoption application. Things worked out and after our three-week adoption trial, we adopted Sophie and Marley!
Gotcha Day: August 8, 2020
